Fat injections are when adipose (fat) tissue is taken from elsewhere in a patient’s body, purified, and then carefully injected into the face to add volume to certain features. Also known as fat grafting or fat transfer, fat injections in Louisville are performed by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Joseph C. Banis, Jr., Dr. Angela Prescott, and board-eligible plastic surgeon Dr. Blake Sparks.
Benefits of Fat Injections
This minimally invasive outpatient procedure comes with the following key advantages:
- 100% biocompatible
- More natural feel than implants
- Permanent results
- Minimal downtime
- May be used alone or with other facial plastic surgery procedures like the facelift
Patients often choose fat injections as an alternative to synthetic fillers, particularly if there is a risk of an allergic reaction to the latter. Since we use your own tissue with fat grafting, the chances of bodily rejection are near zero.
Ideal Candidates for Fat Injections
Fat injections can be used to plump up tissue for facial rejuvenation in areas like the:
- Under-eye hollows
- Cheeks
- Smile lines
- Upper and lower lips
- Chin
- Jawline
Fat transfer can be performed as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with other treatments involving liposuction. For example, if you are also considering getting a thigh lift, arm lift, or breast reduction, your plastic surgeon may be able to repurpose the removed adipose tissue for facial fat grafting.
The Fat Injection Procedure
If your fat injection treatment is being performed independently, an incision will be made in the harvesting location, such as the abdomen, thigh, or buttock. Using the liposuction technique, Dr. Banis, Dr. Prescott, or Dr. Sparks will gently insert a cannula below the skin and use it to remove a small amount of unnecessary fat tissue. The fat is then purified. Finally, it is strategically injected into the planned facial treatment areas to achieve your desired results.
Post-Procedure Recovery
Most patients report manageable swelling and soreness on the face and harvesting location after fat injections, but these issues should gradually subside over the next few weeks. To mitigate any discomfort, you may use an ice pack wrapped in a towel, following a routine of 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. You should be able to return to work after about a week, but your plastic surgeon will provide specific instructions during your consultation.
How Much Do Fat Injections Cost?
The price of facial fat transfer depends on multiple factors, including the number of areas being treated, the amount of adipose tissue being transferred, the number of harvesting locations used, and anesthesia requirements. We also offer cost financing options through CareCredit® and accept most major credit cards.
